Huh?? Me... blogging!?! If you're on Myspace you've probably seen my blogging skills... or lack there of on there... but since a lot of you don't... I thought I'd give this a go...
It's been uh... 3 months since I've been here in Korea... and I'm just now beginning to settle in. What have I been up to the last uh... 3 months where I wasn't in contact with the real world? Well... it took me almost 3 months to get internet, a cell phone, and tv. So that was kind of sad... but whatever. I'm dealing with it now. Ummm... a lot of my pictures are on Facebook... and I actually have no idea how to put pictures on this thing... so bear with me... =)
What have I been up to? Well... most recent event I guess would be a couple weekends ago. I went to this island that's on the Southeastern tip of Korea... it was amazing!!! We didn't arrive at the island until 1am or so... and then we cooked dinner... it was about 4am when dinner was finished before we went midnight... errr... 4am fishing... where which in the process of untangling my line... the hook caught on the crotch of my pants and as I'm trying to get this thing off... it falls into the water... with me almost following behind... no fish... just a sad little Korean girl who realizes that she's not meant for fishing... which if you ask Nick... he can tell you... the only thing I'm good at catching is weeds... ;) Anyway... by the time my frustration got the better of me it was 6:30am... so some of us decided to just stay up and watch the sunrise over the beautiful mountains and the calm ocean... INCREDIBLE!!!
The next day when i finally woke up... we went exploring and got to have an amazing sushimi/sushi lunch... I was walking down to the restaurant and they have live fishtanks (as opposed to the dead ones I guess) outside the restaurant and earlier I saw the cutest sting ray!! Then when I was passing it to go inside... the sting ray was gone!! For a second I was wondering to myself... "where DID that cute sting ray go!?!" And as I'm walking in to our sushimi lunch... I look at the table of raw fish and other things... and yeah... that cute sting ray was now my lunch... how depressing!!! And no... I didn't eat it... it would have been like eating family... and as I tell my kids who say they like to eat people... "uh... it's illegal and quite disturbingly disgusting"... they laugh... and I secretly vomit.
Anyway... on our way home we stopped at the shore and went oyster picking... yep... we picked fresh oysters from the ocean, cracked them open... and ate them right there!! Delicious!! That's about as fresh as you can get!!! So that was my island adventure... And on the way there we stopped at a rest stop and Chris (another teacher) was looking for porn (as always) and we found some asian porn... and I was over looking at some porn videos for him when our bus driver A.K.A. the head manager of my school came up to me and asked if he could help me find something... uh... yeah... color me completely and utterly embarrassed beyond belief... hahahaha.
Other than that fun adventure... I've been busy teaching my wonderful kids. Yep... I adore them... for the most part. There are definitely some classes that are better than others... and some of my boys I think have crushes on me. I have one middle school class which are 16 year olds... and this one boy will always stare at me. I'll look up while I'm sitting at my desk and he'll be looking at me. Kind of weird... but whatever. I have taught most of my kids well to callling me Princess... hahahahaha!! And when I'm upset with them they'll always be like... "oh Amanda... you are looking very beautiful today!" to which I reply... "oooh I know... tell me something I don't know... " hahaha. They're fun. I love to joke around with them.
Ok... social life... well... I usually go dancing/drinking every weekend... which has been great!!! We got to New York New York bar... where they have a fire show... awesome. And after a couple hours of dancing and drinking there we mosey on over to Club Foxy which foreigners get into for FREE!!! BOO YA BITCHES!!! And when all clubs here are $15 cover... it's nice. But this club has two floors... the first floor is techno/dance music... and then second floor is hip/hop. There's a lot of G.I.s that go there... which gets annoying... but it's a lot of fun... and great exercise!!! But it usually means for a long night which usually doesn't end until about 5-7am. My sleep patterns here are terrible... and after working for 6 hours with sometimes screaming kids... all you need is a little night cap... or 5... boo.
I've met a lot of awesome people here... there's a lot of people... especially my age who speak pretty good English... so we hang out with the guys that work at the bar we go to a lot... and I met an awesome girl on the subway one day who I hang out with a lot. They're soo helpful and want to do so much. But Koreans man... their pronunciation... we still don't understand it. It's like saying... "Kim" and "Kim"... to Koreans... it sounds completely different... but to us... we just laugh... and to make matters worse... Janelle and I live near the subway with THE HARDEST pronunciation... there's Dongnae... Seomyeon... Gaya... and then there's ours... Myeongnyun-dong... WTF!?!? Yeah... try telling a taxi driver where you want to go... it's quite interesting... on those late nights... I'm not really sure how I made it home...
Hmmmm... all this talk about alcohol... you'd think i was an alcoholic... *thinks for a moment* nah. =) I just like to have a good time... which seems to happen quite often... and I don't mean just the drinking... it's beautiful here. The mountains, the fresh air... except for the sewers which smell like year old ass... but besides that... it's all good!!!
Well... I've rambled on for uh... god knows HOW long... so I'll just say that I'm having a great time and I'll try to write blogs more often...
